Departing from allusion after initially drawing upon it, the work first employs visual dispositifs as a form of self-soothing. The column is concealed and simultaneously sealed as a monument, while the flesh is toyed with and compressed into a flattened zone. The body—always entangled between beauty and violence—momentarily retreats into a backstage carrier, no longer subject to judgment, whether denigrated or revered. It instead offers a provisional anchoring point for the image’s meaning, providing clues for the proposition at hand.
